Dorset SOTP meet April 2016

Went down to Dorset to a Song of the Paddle meet at Poole Harbour, we were camping at Clavel Point campsite,

which we had all to ourselves. The next day we went paddling around Green Island and Brownsea island, I saw a tanker trailer being shipped over to Green island on a raft to collect oil from the oil well...

the harbour is very large, and takes a while to get around, but is quite interesting

The next day we went paddling down the coast towards Old Harry Rocks

the sea was very calm, which was good, as there were a few Canadian canoes in our group

the scenery was spectacular

We then stopped for a picnic on the beach by the rocks

then we headed back to the campsite, excellent trip.

Lincolnshire Trip

Met Neil at Pease pottage services, then off to meet Steve and Emma at Clacket Lane services, we then set off for Duxford and spent a few hours wandering around the aircraft, very interesting, and also very hot!, we also saw a Spitfire flying around. Next we headed up to Lincoln, where we split up, Neil, Steve and Emma went to a hotel in North Hykeham, and I headed through Lincoln ( with a short detour to find the tanker route to one of the Tesco stores, as it is a tad easier to turn around if you make a mistake on a bike). I headed North to Lincolnshire Lanes campsite, and after a lot of faffage, found the correct field.

As I was finishing putting up my tent, a lady came over to me  and said the magic words "San Miguel?", and gave me a bottle of beer, most welcome. I wasn't able to pay for camping that evening as reception was shut but was due to open at 9a.m. the next morning.
I was due to meet the others at 09:30, and unfortunately the reception opened 10 minutes late, so I had a bit of  rush to meet the others at their hotel. I rode past R.A.F Scampton on the way, and when I met Neil and co, he said we were going to visit R.A.F Scampton where the Dambusters set off from. We had almost reached the base, when Neil turned right at the roundabout before the base, and after a mile or so, I was expecting him to turn round, and he rode onto a bit of concrete in a field, and I was really surprised to find out this was the original runway..

I found out later that Neil had taken a token pieceof runway concrete and dropped it off one of the dams in Germany! Next we headed to Hemswell Cliff, then on to Brigg for a Kangaroo burger, and an ice cream from Sargents

then we went to East Kirkby Lincolnshire Aviation Museum to see the Lancaster going up and down the runway

Then I left the others to find their hotel while I went to have a look at Gibraltar Point (from the shipping forecast)

Next morning, I packed up the tent and headed to Swineshead

to meet the others, then we went to the Bubblecar Museum which was really interesting

Next we headed South, to the M25, and The De Haviland museum, which was also very interesting. Many thanks to Neil for organizing this trip, and some of the photo's as I have lost most of mine, and to Steve and Emma for great company
